Curiosity has always been the thing. It's what gets me out of bed, what makes me take on problems that don't have an obvious answer, and what has taken me to some interesting places over the past 25 years.
I started at SLB as a geophysicist and spent twelve years learning the business properly, working offshore and across postings in Australia, the UK, Malaysia, and the US. The highlight was leading the team that built the world's first onboard wave equation migration system. Before that, processed seismic data took up to twelve months to reach the geoscientists who needed it. We got it down to near real-time, directly off the vessel. It won a Schlumberger Gold Medal for Business Innovation.
Through BHP and Kosmos Energy I ran global programs across eight countries, managed a $370M portfolio, and learned that the hardest part of any complex operation is rarely the technical problem. It's getting the right people aligned around the right plan at the right time. Vineyard Wind and Avangrid brought that same challenge into offshore wind, a sector still working out how to do a lot of this for the first time.
In 2020 I founded EPL Solutions. Working with AcTEQ I developed HexFrame, a compact low-cost system that uses full waveform inversion to produce engineering-ready ground models. The idea came out of watching developers spend heavily on site investigations because geotechnical engineers didn't trust geophysical data. The solution wasn't more data. It was a purpose-built acquisition system that uses full waveform inversion and inversion to extract the ground properties that geotechnical engineers actually need, presented in a way they can use directly in foundation design.
I'm also developing Seabed Analytics, a data platform for the marine survey sector. The problem it solves is one I've seen on almost every program I've run: the same seafloor gets surveyed over and over by different contractors, the data never gets shared, and every new project starts from zero. This platform is designed to fix that. It's early stage and I'm actively looking for partners and investors. If that sounds relevant, get in touch.
I'm based on the US East Coast and work globally with energy developers, infrastructure owners, private equity, and technology startups.
